I have friend living next door, left for vacation four days ago and I wasn't there when he took his flight. Then yesteday I received an email from him telling me that he's fine, journey was okay, he's happy to be with his family, blah...blah..blah...etc..etc..... Then he asked me why I did not tell him when i'll be out for six days (that fantastic six days is Taranto) and not even saying goodbye or farewel(l), and by that he called me a "British, especially English"!

Are British or English people leaving friends (just for a short absence) without saying goodbye![]()
I have at least four English friends and they're cool though wacky sometimes, but i really like them, they are cold blooded friends most of the time but they really took care of me when i come to visit them![]()

Am just wondering about this

no. is the short simple answer. as a nation we are relaxed and see no distance in a weeks trip. did you ask him to feed your cat or fish? no? then i just dont see the problem..IN FACT IM INSULTED

No, only that we're friends, thats all. Even my parrot, i did not ask him to feed and my he survived for six days-of course i left enough food in his cage, but about my friend, sorry if you felt insulted with his words. don't worry, i'll ask him why he said so when he comes back here this September. Me too, am not really convinced on what he said actually, because aside from my four english close friends in the university and before the semesters end, we say goodbye or farewell to each other and that's all.
May be my friend is just so sentimental.
Thanks
Angel

You need to define the difference between English and British.
British is all of us. English people are a breed apart.
Alot of the stereotypes about British people are actually about English people.
Generalisations generally apply. I often go away without needing to say goodbye to everyone I know. But that's just me rather than a trait of being English.
